Demonstration of treatment planning software for hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in a rat model

چکیده
Background Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is administered to treat residual microscopic disease after cytoreductive surgery (CRS). During HIPEC, fluid (41–43 °C) and drained through a limited number of catheters, risking thermal drug heterogeneities within the abdominal cavity that might reduce effectiveness. Treatment planning software provides unique tool for optimizing treatment delivery. This study aimed investigate influence treatment-specific parameters on homogeneity in peritoneal computed tomography based rat model.Method We developed computational dynamics (CFD) simulating dynamic flow, temperature distribution during oxaliplatin HIPEC. The location flow alternations rates were determined. was validated using data from experimental HIPEC studies. Results predicted core systemic concentration comparable values found literature. Adequate placement additional inflow catheters higher reduced spatial variation by −1.4 °C, −2.3 °C −1.2 respectively. Flow resulted temperatures (up +1.5 over surface. Higher also surface resulting more homogeneous effective dose. Conclusion presented insights which enables optimization an excellent basis human applications.

Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
Selected patients with peritoneal surface malignancies benefit from a radical therapeutic approach consisting of cytoreductive surgery combined with perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (PIC), whichmay be complemented by systemic chemotherapy. Numerous studies have shown the efficacy of this strategy, which has led to survival results unknown to date, even in the era of last-generation ch...

A 35-year-old man was treated for pseudomyxoma peritonei by surgery and by thermal infusion and chemotherapy with a machine designed specifically for the treatment of cancers of serosal surfaces. After extensive abdominal resection and closure, the patient's peritoneal cavity was instilled with 2.5 liters of 5% lactated Ringer's solution. He was then attached to hyperthermic perfusion system wh...

Ovarian cancer remains the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women in France. It is all too often diagnosed at an advanced stage with peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC), but remains confined to the peritoneal cavity throughout much of its natural history. Because of cellular selection pressure over time, most tumor recurrences eventually develop resistance to systemic platinum. Options for sa...

women despite the fact that, paradoxically, it has innate characteristics which should facilitate effective treatment: it begins, and frequently remains, confined within the peritoneal cavity for much of its natural history (apart, most notably) from retroperitoneal lymph node involvement, it is relatively 'non-invasive' and thus amenable to surgical resection, and it responds well to initial c...
متن کاملSelection of chemotherapy for hyperthermic intraperitoneal use in gastric cancer.
PURPOSE Several studies have shown the potential benefit of cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in gastric cancer patients. At present the most effective chemotherapeutic regime in HIPEC for gastric cancer is unknown. The aim of this review was to provide a comprehensive overview of chemotherapeutic agents used for HIPEC in gastric cancer. MET...
